END OF THE ROAD FOR TURPIN SENIORS

3 SPARTANS FIND PODIUM AT DAYTON, BUT STATE DREAMS FALL SHORT

5-26-2007 - The Regional Finals at Dayton's Welcome Stadium marked the end of a whirlwind season for the four Spartans that competed on Saturday, as three found the podium but none reached the top 4 in their event.  The top 4 in each event moved on to next week's State Championships in Columbus.

Early in the day, promising junior Kevin Marshall (top, left) finished off a terrific year with a 6th place finish, with a career-best throw of 52'1.5".  Marshall will return next year as a favorite to move on to Columbus; his performance at Dayton places him third among returning throwers.

The heart and soul of Turpin women's cross country and distance track for four years, Meredith Jaworek finished her incredible career with an 8th place finish at Dayton, in 11:40.53.  It was the 2-time XC All-Ohioan's first race at Dayton, and capped one of the greatest careers in the history of Turpin's now storied women's distance running program.  Jaworek will run for former Turpin coach Steve Nester at Xavier University this fall.

For Turpin's other distance senior captain, Ryan Kiracofe (right, with coach Jim Gossett), Dayton was a bittersweet end.  The senior finished 5th in the region, missing his first berth in the State Championships by a single place.  Kiracofe did, however, break his own school record in the 3200m run, finishing in 9:29.96.  He now holds school records in the 3200m, 1600m, XC 5000m, and the 4x1600m relay.  Kiracofe will run for Boston College in the fall.

Senior captain Kristen Frooman (right, with coach Bruce Eisenhard) also wrapped up an exceptional career for Turpin, with a somewhat disappointing but strong 10th place finish (9'8") in the pole vault.  Frooman won her first District Championship in 2007, and led the Spartan girls in scoring all season.
