FROOMAN SHINES IN POLE
VAULT AS BOTH SPARTAN TEAMS TAKE SECOND AT LASALLE 3-24-2007 - The Turpin boys' and girls' track teams began the 2007 season on a positive note, both finishing in second place at the LaSalle Early Bird Invitational on Saturday. Despite the overall success of the day, senior and returning regional-qualifier Kristen Frooman (right) was the only Turpin individual to win an event, finishing first in the pole vault. There were, however, many other noteworthy performances, beginning with a pair of second place finishes in the 4 x 800 meter relay. Senior Meredith Jaworek finished second in the 1600m run, and again later in the 800 meters. The boys 4 x 400 meter relay finished a strong second, highlighted by one of the gutsiest performances of junior Rob DiMartino's track career. Senior captain Frances Litterski finished 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles, and her 4 x 200 meter relay was 2nd as well. High jumpers JD Emery and Matt Cameron finished 4th and 5th, respectively. Meecis Davis anchored the Turpin squad in the day's most exciting race, a 4 x 200 relay in which the Spartans beat out Toledo Scott for third place. Senior Ryan Kiracofe was second in the 3200m run, and Sam Patty led the Spartans on the girls side in the same race. Turpin long jumpers swept positions two through four, as Eric Platek was second in his track debut (C. Groene was third, S. McGill, fourth).
