REGULAR SEASON 2006

WEEK ONE

HENRY JACQUEZ MOELLER INVITATIONAL

GIRLS PACK BIG 1-2-3 PUNCH, KIRACOFE WINS

PERFORMANCES FROM PATTY, M. JAWOREK,PRICE LIFT GIRLS TO 3RD; BOYS STRUGGLE WITH HILLS, SUSPENSIONS

EVENDALE - The Spartan girls team (#8) took large steps on Saturday morning towards reestablishing themselves as one of the city's premier teams, with the emergence of a quality 1-2-3 set of runners that hasn't been seen at Turpin in years.  Junior Sam Patty led the squad to a third place finish, as she was second overall.  Senior captain Meredith Jaworek and sophomore Kaitlin Price weren't far behind, showing that the team definitely has no shortage of possible front-runners.  #1 Colerain and #6 Mercy were 1st and 2nd, respectively.

The boys side (#5) struggled to a fourth place finish, behind St. Xavier (#4), Elder (#2), and Carroll.  Moeller's new course, at Landmark Baptist Church, featured a torturous array of hills and rough terrain.  With four of Turpin's varsity 10 (Week 1 features an expanded roster, not the standard 7) running in their first high school races, as well as #4 runner Adam Baas remaining inactive, the Spartans showed their youth and will look to get back on track next week at Lakota.  Senior captain Ryan Kiracofe won the race for the second year in a row, and junior captain Kyle Rewick was second for Turpin.  Sophomore Drew DiSabatino, freshman Nick El-Khoury (who turned in an astounding first performance), and junior captain Ben Wagner rounded out the scorers for the Spartan boys.
