TURPIN GIRLS SHINE AT LAKOTA

M. JAWOREK TAKES 2ND; RODRIGUEZ BREAKS THROUGH AS BOYS STRUGGLE TO HIT STRIDE

LAKOTA - Turpin's girls proved on Saturday morning that they are no fluke, and that the best is truly yet to come.  A week after showcasing one of the city's premier 1-2-3 running combinations (M. Jaworek, Patty, Price), the Spartans took their game to another level, pushing #2 Mason to the limit at the Lakota Classic.  In her best performance in over a year, Meredith Jaworek led the Turpin effort, finishing second overall.  Emerging star Sam Patty was not far behind in third place, and solid sophomore Katilin Price was 8th.

The boys team turned last week's sub-par meet into an early season, two-week slump as they stumbled to 6th place at Lakota.  As Ryan Kiracofe fought through illness to take 5th place and Kyle Rewick was 16th, it was the rapid improvement of sophomore Drew DiSabatino and freshmen Dave Rodriguez and Nick El-Khoury that was the highlight of the day (the latter two broke 18:00 for the first time).  Looking towards Adam Baas' anticipated return to the team next weekend in Columbus, the Spartans will aim to blend their solid core of veterans with the surprising youth movement (Turpin's varsity lineup at Lakota featured 3 freshmen, plus DiSabatino) to put their best foot forward in front of great teams like national powerhouse LaSalle.
