THS TEAMS GAIN MOMENTUM HEADING INTO POSTSEASON TEAM PERFORMANCES EARN GIRLS SECOND PLACE, GUYS THIRD; KIRACOFE WINS AGAIN
CENTERVILLE - Both Turpin teams performed well at Saturday's Centerville Stampede, the regular season's final contest. Total team efforts pushed the girls to a strong second-place finish, behind state favorite Bowling Green, and the boys team to an encouraging third place result, just 8 points behind a solid Loveland team.
The girls were led by senior Meredith Jaworek (above left), whose gutsy 8th place performance (19:18) will set her up for a potential second individual conference championship next weekend. Sam Patty finished a strong 14th in 19:39, while Kaitlin Price (above left) was 24th in just under 20:00. The incredible improvement of #4 runner Lauren Young continued, as she ran a career best 20:08, good enough for 27th place. Katie Nemann rounded out the scoring for the girls team, finishing 46th in 20:25. The Turpin girls made it two victories in a row over traditional power McAuley, whose 136 points put them 17 behind Turpin's 119.
The guys team got a much needed shot in the arm, as their 3rd place performance should give it enough momentum to win its first-ever FAVC title next weekend. Ryan Kiracofe (above right) won his second consecutive race and third of the season, beating Troy's Jake Enke in 16:05. Kyle Rewick posted a career best time of 16:29, en route to a strong 6th place finish. The story of the day for Turpin, however, was how the team packed its 3, 4, and 5 runners in the 17:30's: Drew DiSabatino in 17:30 (37th), Nick El-Khoury in 17:31 (41st), and emerging star Rob DiMartino in 17:37 (47th). Turpin will look next week to avenge 8 consecutive years of second-place finishes to Kings in the conference meet, as the girls team will look to recover the title they lost in a tiebreaker last year.
