REGULAR SEASON 2006 WEEK FOUR GIRLS ROLL ON AT ALLIANCE SPARTAN GIRLS POWER TO SECOND; GUYS' DEPTH STRUGGLES CONTINUE
CLAYTON, OH - Through the first half of the regular season, the Turpin girls team has established itself as a force to be reckoned with come Districts. On Saturday, the consistent 1-2-3 punch of Meredith Jaworek, Sam Patty, and Kaitlin Price continued its incredible run through the season's first 4 weeks. Senior Meredith Jaworek (right) led the effort, with a season-best 19:02 performance that was good enough for 4th place. Sam Patty was not far off, finishing 8th in 19:38. Kaitlin Price was 12th in 19:56. The true story of Saturday's meet however, was not the consistent performance of the top 3, but the new sense of depth at positions 4-7, that may be able to push the Spartans deep into this year's postseason. Lauren Young was 35th (20:34), Jillian Jaworek finished 65th in the race of her young career (21:27), Kathryn Nemann was 72nd (21:41), and Elizabeth Eickhoff was 74th (21:42). Grania Frueh, Miranda Schaffer, and Stephanie Silver led the effort for the JV team.
The guys team was plagued by the same problems that hindered it in weeks 1 and 2: the absence of senior Adam Baas, and tough races for runners 3-7. On a course that was extremely muddy and soft by the Boys' Varsity Race (the final race of the day), Ryan Kiracofe took 4th place in 16:23. Kyle Rewick, despite running the race's second half with one shoe, took 7th in 16:44. From there, Turpin's runners were as follows: Dave Rodriguez (48th, 17:56), Nick El-Khoury (53rd, 17:59), Drew DiSabatino (54th, 17:59), Ben Wagner (62nd, 18:11), Alex Polivka (82nd, 18:42). In the JV race, Rob DiMartino had the race of his career, finishing 9th. Matt Petro was 10th.
